Moroccan Parliamentary Delegation to 147th IPU Assembly Holds Talks with Speaker of the National Assembly of Transition in the Gabonese Republic, Hon. Jean-François Ndongou

As part of its participation in the 147th IPU Assembly, hosted by the National Assembly of Angola in Luanda on October 23-27, 2023, the Moroccan parliamentary delegation led by the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Mohammed Sabbari, held talks, on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Transition in the Gabonese Republic, Hon. Jean-François Ndongou.

The meeting took place in the presence of Rep. Mustapha Reddad (Group of the National Rally of Independents) and Rep. Omar Hejira (Istiqlali Group of Unity and Egalitarianism). On the Gabonese side, the meeting was attended by Mr. Faustin Boukoubi (former Speaker of the National Assembly), Admiral Gabriel Mally (Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly), Mr. Aurélien Ntoutoume Mebiame (member of the National Assembly), Ms. Diane Mengue M'Akue (member of the National Assembly), and H.E. Guy Nambo Wezet (Ambassador of the Gabonese Republic to Angola).

At the onset of the meeting, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Transition in Gabon gave a detailed presentation on the political situation in his country. In this regard, he noted that the authorities in power deploy major efforts to guarantee a fast and calm restoration of the Constitutional regime by establishing all institutions of transition. In this regard, he noted that following the formation of the Transition Government and the Constitutional Court of Transition, the authorities formed the National Assembly of Transition and the Transition Senate, including all political parties. Besides, the Prime Minister requested written contributions from all citizens in preparation for holding a comprehensive national congress as soon as possible.

For his part, the head of the Moroccan parliamentary delegation, Rep. Mohammed Sabbari, commended the distinguished historic relations linking the Kingdom of Morocco to the Gabonese Republic, underscoring the unwavering principle of the Kingdom is not interfering in the internal affairs of countries. Besides, he lauded the wisdom of the living forces in Gabon in managing the transition process, noting the confidence of the Kingdom of Morocco in the friendly country's ability to overcome this period as soon as possible.

Besides, he also stressed the importance of pursuing the consolidation of the cooperation and friendship links between the two legislative institutions in all areas, particularly at the bilateral level by activating the Parliamentary Friendship Group and exchanging visits, and at the multilateral level by pursuing the mutual support and coordination of positions within international parliamentary fora, as is the case in the IPU Assembly.
