The Moroccan Parliament took part on Sunday, March 20, 2022, in the meetings of the 33rd Session of the Forum of Women Parliamentarians, as part of the 144th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, currently taking place in Bali, Indonesia. Rep. Khadouj Slassi represented the Moroccan representation in these meetings.
The meetings tackled several topics related to women, the efforts for equality, and the parliamentary experiences in reinforcing the health of mothers and newborns in light of COVID-19 and recovery from the latter. The meetings also featured the discussion of ways to consolidate information and communication technologies as an enabler in the education sector, especially in times of the pandemic.
In her intervention on the last theme, Rep. Khadouj Slassi noted that education was required, during the pandemic, to adapt its continuity through the use of the necessary technologies in a world of unequal opportunities. She also added that countries had to develop new learning methods by using technologies adapted to remote learning, which was not easy as not all countries were well prepared and equipped with the same tools, which made it challenging to adopt digital transition from the start.
Rep. Slassi added that the quality of technological tools in schools is not adequate, and educational institutions lack the means to enable students and teachers to access the digital world, especially in dangerous and remote areas around the world. In addition, she underscored that girls are the first victims of such inequality.
In the same respect, the Moroccan Representative noted that the traditional education spaces, meaning schools, are undergoing deep reforms, despite the adverse reactions to them. Accordingly, digitalization has proven to be in the service of students, as it enables better sharing and broader, more precise, and quicker access to knowledge and information. It also provides wider opportunities to acquire expertise and skills and, most notably, interact as students learn faster and more flexibly.
Rep. Khadouj Slassi concluded her intervention by underscoring that digital learning has to complement, enhance and stimulate in-class learning through easing dialogue between the actors, namely students, teachers, parents, and administrations, in order to train a generation that would be able to keep pace with the future world, while taking into account the necessity of equal access to that world.
