Moroccan Parliament Hosts Proceedings of the APF’s Network of Women Parliamentarians and Committee on Parliamentary Affairs on March 1-2, 2023

The Moroccan Parliament will host on March 1-2, 2023, at the seat in Rabat, the proceedings of the Network of Women Parliamentarians and the Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, under the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF).

The agenda of the Network of Women Parliamentarians includes the presentation of the Network's reports and activities for the period between July 2022 and February 2023, in addition to the adopted policy adopted by parliaments in the area of fighting violence against women and other themes related to women's rights and gender equality.

Besides, the gathering will also discuss a proposal related to the creation of the Moroccan Network of Women Parliamentarians and other proposals made by the various participating representations. Moreover, it will also include the monitoring of the international pledges related to gender equality and women's rights and the creation of the Francophonie Prize of the Network of Women Parliamentarians for 2024.

On the other hand, the agenda of the Committee on Parliamentary Affairs includes the change in the formation of the Committee’s Bureau, the presentation of reports on the impacts of “disinformation” in the parliamentary sphere, and the evaluation of the cooperation activities organized by the APF in 2022.

In addition, the Committee will review the activities of the International Organization of the Francophonie for 2022, deliberate on draft reports, and examine the progress of implementation of the resolutions issued during its last meeting and the cooperation agreements that fall under its competence.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie, created in May 1967 in Luxembourg, is a space for dialogue, presentation of proposals, and exchange of information and experiences. The Assembly gathers several parliamentary representations from the five continents.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami currently serves as Vice-President of the APF.

The Moroccan Parliament joined the APF in 1979 and hosted some of its sessions, the meetings of its Committees, and sessions of its Africa Regional Assembly.

The APF includes four committees: Committee on Political Affairs, Committee on Education, Communication, and Cultural Affairs, Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, and Committee on Cooperation and Development. The Assembly’s organs also include the Network of Women Parliamentarians.
