Upon the joint invitation of the Chairperson of the Chile-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group and the Chairperson of the Committee on External Relations, Parliamentary Affairs, and Latin American Inclusion at the Chilean Chamber of Deputies, the members of the Morocco-Chile Parliamentary Friendship Group at the House of Representatives perform a working visit to the Republic of Chile on May 29-June 1, 2023.
The Moroccan parliamentary delegation includes Rep. Aicha El Karji, the Chairperson of the Morocco-Chile Parliamentary Friendship Group (Socialist Group-Ittihadi Opposition), Rep. Fatine El Ghali (Group of the National Rally of Independents), Rep. Khadija Ezzoumi (Istiqlali Group of Unity and Egalitarianism), Rep. Soukaina Lahmouch (Haraki Group), Rep. Said Zaydi (Group of Progress and Socialism), and Rep. Hind Bennani (Parliamentary Caucus of Justice and Development).
The visit featured several important talks with the members of the Chilean Government. In this respect, the delegation of the House of Representatives held discussions with the Minister of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage, Mr. Jaime de Aguirre Höffa; the Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Republic, Mr. Álvaro Elizalde; the Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Alex Wetzig; the Minister of Social Development and Family, Mr. Giorgio Jackson; and the Deputy Minister of Energy.
During the meeting, which featured the presence of the His Majesty’s Ambassador to Santiago, H.E. Kenza El Ghali, the members of the Chilean Government expressed their satisfaction with the quality ties linking the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Chile in various areas. In this regard, they covered the agreements and memoranda of understanding concluded by the two countries in politics, economy, trade, culture, and science. The Chilean officials also commended the structural reforms and great development achievements of the Kingdom of Morocco in its provinces, which have enabled the Kingdom to occupy a distinguished position at the international level.
On the same occasion, the Government officials of the Republic of Chile expressed their desire to learn from the successful experiences of the Kingdom of Morocco in the areas of renewable energies, digital and energy transition, and the universalization of social protection. Similarly, they noted that the Kingdom of Morocco is a role model at the international level and a reliable partner in South-South Cooperation.
For their part, the members of the Moroccan delegation expressed their pride in the strong and historical bonds linking the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Chile. They also commended the position of the Republic of Chile with regard to the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco. In the same respect, they underscored the keenness of the Morocco-Chile Parliamentary Friendship Group at the House of Representatives to follow up the qualitative leap in the bilateral ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Chile, noting that the parliamentary links uniting their two legislative institutions are excellent. Moreover, the parliamentary delegation stressed the active role of parliamentary diplomacy in complementing and entrenching the gains achieved by official diplomacy, highlighting the remarkable position of the Kingdom of Morocco in Africa, the Arab World, and North Africa.
At the parliamentary level, the members of the Morocco-Chile Parliamentary Friendship Group held several high-level meetings with the Speaker of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies, Hon. Vlado Mirosevic; the Speaker of the Chilean Senate, Hon. Antonio Coloma; the Chairperson and members of the Chile-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group, the Chairperson of the Committee on External Relations and Inter-Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Tomás De Rementería; and the Chairperson of the Committee on Women and Gender Equality, Ms. María Francisca Bello.
During these talks, the Speaker and members of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies lauded the excellent bilateral parliamentary ties, the magnitude of the exchange of visits between parliamentary delegations from the Moroccan House of Representatives and the Chilean Chamber of Deputies, and the institutionalization of their ties via a memorandum of understanding. Besides, the talks covered the importance of advancing parliamentary relations to a higher level of cooperation and exchanging experiences and expertise in legislation, control, and public policy evaluation. The Speaker and members of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies also underlined the importance of pursuing consultation and coordination between the two legislative institutions, given their importance in consolidating the Morocco-Chile ties. In the same vein, they expressed their admiration for the grand development projects launched by the Kingdom of Morocco in all its provinces and the remarkable advance recorded by the Kingdom in social areas like women empowerment and gender equality.
It should be noted that the visit program includes attending the ceremony of presentation of the yearly record by the President of the Republic of Chile, H.E. Gabriel Boric, on Thursday, June 1, 2023.
