House of Representatives Takes Part in February Session of the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN)

Rep. Hayat Laaraych took part in the proceedings of the February Session of the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN), held on February 22-23, 2024, in Guatemala City.

On the sidelines of her participation in the plenary sitting in the name of the National Representation of the House of Representatives at the Central American Parliament, Rep. Hayat Laaraych held talks with Hon. Silvia García Polanco, the current President of this regional parliamentary organization, on behalf of the Dominican Republic.

During the meeting, Rep. Hayat Laaraych noted that her participation in this Session on behalf of the Moroccan Parliament is proof of the continuous commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco to South-South Cooperation, which has become one of the pillars of national diplomacy in its official and parliamentary aspects, following the directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah glorify him. The Moroccan Representative also shed light on the excellent momentum characterizing the relationship between the Moroccan Parliament and the Central American Parliament during the recent period.

For her part, the President of the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN) commended the leading role of the Kingdom of Morocco as a gate to Africa. She also expressed her aspiration to benefit from the Moroccan experience in managing migration in the region and to reinforce parliamentary coordination with the Kingdom of Morocco. Besides, Hon. Silvia García Polanco expressed her desire to create a Women's Forum of the Central American Parliament and the Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco during her mandate as the President of this regional organization.

The Session featured the adoption of several draft resolutions elaborated by the members of the Standing Committees in their meetings at the national parliaments of the Member States since mid-February. The draft resolutions covered migration management and clean energies within the Central American Integration System (SICA).

It should be noted that the Moroccan Parliament joined the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN) as an observer member on June 16, 2015. The Parliament, representing the Central American Integration System (SICA), gathers six countries: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. Besides, it also includes observer members representing the Parliaments of Mexico, Puerto Rico, China, Venezuela, the Kingdom of Morocco, and Russia.
