House of Representatives Takes Part in February Session of the Central American Parliament

Rep. Hayat Laaraych took part in the proceedings of the February Session of the Central American Parliament (Parlacen), which took place on February 20-24, 2023, in the Republic of Guatemala.

Being a member of the National Representation of the House of Representatives at the Central American Parliament, Rep. Hayat Laaraych held talks with the President of the said regional parliamentary Organization, Mr. Amado Cerrud Acevedo, in the presence of the First Vice-President, Ms. Iliana Guadalupe Calles Domínguez and the Chairperson of the Committee on External Affairs and Migration, Mr. Carlos René Hernández Castillo.

During the meeting, Rep. Hayat Laaraych noted that her participation in the Session on behalf of the Moroccan House of Representatives reflects the strong commitment of the Kingdom of Morocco to South-South Cooperation, to which His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God glorify him, has always granted significant attention. The Moroccan Representative also shed light on our country's evolution in sustainable development and energy transition.

For his part, the President of the Central American Parliament praised the leading role of the Kingdom of Morocco as a bridge to Africa, noting that he aspires to benefit from the Moroccan experience in migration management in the region and to reinforce parliamentary coordination with the Kingdom of Morocco as a link with the African States through promoting joint cooperation under the Parliamentary Forum of Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean (AFROLAC).

The Session featured a swearing-in ceremony of Rep. Hayat Laaraych before the Central American Parliament as an observer member within the National Representation of this regional parliamentary Organization. Besides, the Session featured the ratification of several draft resolutions prepared by the Standing Committees on several themes, mainly family, health, culture, languages, human mobility, and renewable energies within the Central American Integration System (SICA).

It should be noted that the Moroccan Parliament, with its two Houses, joined the Central American Parliament as an observer member on June 16, 2015. The Central American Parliament, an organ of the SICA, includes six States: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Dominican Republic.
