House of Representatives Organizes Parliamentary Day as Part of the Africa and the Middle East Regional Meeting of the Open Government Partnership Initiative

As part of the 2022 Africa and the Middle East Regional Meeting of the Open Government Partnership Initiative, hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco, in cooperation with the OGP, in Marrakech on November 1-3, 2022, the House of Representatives will organize on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, a Parliamentary Day to exchange experiences and views on the contributions of African parliaments in the area of “Open Government.”

The meeting will feature the participation of the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Speakers and members of African Parliaments, representatives of Governments, civil society bodies, territorial collectivities (local governments), international organizations, experts, and specialists. The participants will discuss transparency in managing debt in Africa, participatory democracy, the relationship between the Parliament and civil society, digitalization challenges, openness to society, and the role of the Parliament's Administration in this area.

It should be noted that the House of Representatives is a member of the Open Government Partnership Initiative, to which it adhered in 2019. The has achieved positive results in implementing its pledges for the First Plan of 2019-2021, and launched this year talks with civil society actors and associations about its pledges for the second plan covering the period of 2022-2023.

The action plan of the House, covering the period of August 2022-December 2023, includes seven pledges that aim to promote and consolidate the democratic and parliamentary culture, implement proximity parliament, strengthen openness to the public, involve citizens in legislation, control, and evaluation of public policies, organize thematic events on democracy, and promote the culture of participation amongst youth and kids.
