Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki held talks, on Saturday, March 13, 2021, with Acting President of Pan-African Parliament Fortune Charumbira, currently on a working visit to our country.
During this meeting, the Acting President of the Pan-African Parliament lauded the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in fighting Coronavirus, commending the measures undertaken by the Kingdom in this regard. He also expressed his admiration of the development of Morocco in different sectors under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King.
On the same occasion, Mr. Fortune Charumbira stressed his keenness to promote cooperation ties with the Moroccan Parliament, adding that the Pan-African Parliament has been established to serve development in Africa, and “belongs to the peoples of the continent.” Mr. Charumbira also reviewed the preparations for the renewal of the organs of the Pan-African Parliament during its next session that will be held in May 2021.
For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives commended the role of the Pan-African Parliament in bringing the peoples of the continent closer, noting the "importance of reinforcing this institution and providing it with the necessary legality." He also called for committing to democratic dialogue in resolving the conflicts in Africa and working on unifying the continent to open new horizons for future generations.
Mr. El Malki stressed that the next elections of the Pan-African Parliament organs should be a democratic moment that transcends narrow political conflicts and interests, expressing the strong will of the Moroccan Parliament to contribute to the success of this step and participate actively in “constructing a united Africa.”
