In His Reception by Speaker of House of Representatives, Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Lauds Enlightened Policies of His Majesty King Mohammed VI

Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki received on Wednesday, May 05, 2021, at the House headquarters, Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selaković, currently on a courtesy and working visit to our country.

In this meeting, the Speaker of the House of Representatives commended the unwavering position of Serbia in favor of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, noting that the two countries share the same values and enjoy strong friendship bonds since the start of their diplomatic relations in 1957. Mr. El Malki noted with satisfaction the convergence of views between the two countries in various regional and international questions, stressing that the defense of national sovereignty and territorial integrity are constants of their diplomacy.

In the same respect, Mr. El Malki recalled the important role of Morocco under the leadership of the late His Majesty King Hassan II in constructing the Non-Aligned Movement, which 60th anniversary will be celebrated in Serbia this year. The Speaker also called for pursuing solid and regular coordination between the two countries within international organizations to serve their mutual interests, and consolidating the bilateral economic cooperation, especially through realizing joint projects that serve development in Africa.

At the parliamentary level, the Speaker of the House of Representatives lauded the cooperation and partnership ties linking the legislative institutions of both countries. In this context, he recalled their conclusion, in 2018, of a memorandum of understanding on institutionalizing relations between them and renewed the invitation to the President of the Serbian National Assembly to perform a working visit to our country.

For his part, Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selaković lauded the wisdom of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. In this respect, he stated, "Morocco has become a model country and succeeded in his policies as a bridge linking Africa to Europe. The Serbian people have the utmost respect for the visionary policies of His Majesty the King." The Minister also noted that his visit to the Kingdom is the first that he performs to an African country, which "reflects the level of distinguished friendship and mutual trust between the two peoples and countries."

The Serbian official affirmed the convergence of views between the two countries and reiterated his country’s support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and its efforts to find a resolute solution to the artificial conflict around the Moroccan Sahara. Mr. Selaković also highlighted that the relations between the two countries would witness a significant advance after the conclusion of numerous cooperation agreements during his visit to the Kingdom.
