In His Meeting with Speaker of House of Representatives, Ambassador of Finland Lauds Stability and Development of Kingdom of Morocco

Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki received, on Thursday, September 17th, 2020, at the House’s headquarters, Ambassador of Finland to Morocco Pekka Hyvönen, in a courtesy visit following his appointment as the new Ambassador to Morocco.

At the start of the meeting, the Finnish Ambassador lauded the transparency and openness characterizing the parliamentary work at the House of Representatives, which enable citizens to follow it up closely. He also expressed his country's intention to solidify its cooperative ties with the Kingdom of Morocco at all levels, including cooperation between the legislative institutions of the two countries.

Besides, Mr. Pekka Hyvönen affirmed that Finland considers Morocco a bridge towards Africa, considering its distinct strategic location. In this respect, he added that "Morocco is a modern and stable country, which increases the prospects and opportunities of economic and commercial exchange with Finland." The Ambassador also lauded Morocco's pioneering in renewable energies, stating that Morocco is a role model for African countries in exploiting clean energies. 

In the same respect, Finland’s Ambassador reviewed the promising cooperation opportunities between the two countries in vital areas like renewable energies, artificial intelligence, modern technologies, green economy, education and training, and other sectors. He also highlighted his country’s willing to share its experience and expertise in the said areas with the Kingdom of Morocco.

On his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives lauded the high-quality relations linking Morocco to Finland, expressing his satisfaction with the strong friendship bonds between the two countries' legislative institutions, and the constant concertation and exchange of visits between them. In the same context, he invited the Speaker of the Finnish Parliament (Eduskunta) to perform a working visit to Morocco, which will allow both sides to review the means to advance the relations between the two countries towards further convergence and cooperation.

On this occasion, Mr. Habib El Malki gave an insight on the formation of the House of Representatives and the increase of women representation within the legislative institution. He also noted that the House had created a thematic working group on equality and parity, which is in charge of advancing women's situation. Besides, Mr. El Malki highlighted that the House has lately formed a thematic working group in charge of the legislation on the healthcare system, in consonance with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI regarding the development of the health sector and providing social protection for all Moroccans and generalizing it to all social categories.
