Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki held talks on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at the House, with the Coordinator of the Agency for the Prevention and Fight Against Trafficking in Persons (APLTP) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cécile Rebecca Meta Kasanda, currently on a working visit to our country.
In this meeting, attended by the Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Rabat, the Coordinator of APLTP lauded the evolution of the legal arsenal in the Kingdom of Morocco with regard to preventing and fighting the phenomenon of human trafficking. In this respect, she stated, "Morocco is a model in this area, and we are here to analyze and learn from the Moroccan experience closely."
Ms. Cécile Rebecca Meta Kasandra presented the highlights of consolidating the prevention and fight against human trafficking in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In this context, she highlighted the elaboration of a national strategy on the matter. She also shed light on the efforts of awareness-raising and other activities of the Agency.
On the same occasion, the Coordinator lauded the distinguished ties linking the Kingdom of Morocco and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She said, "Morocco has always supported the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in harsh times." She also expressed gratitude for the assistance of the Kingdom in the health sector, especially the aids provided by the Kingdom of Morocco to fight the Ebola virus and COVID-19, in addition to the contribution of the Kingdom to the peacekeeping and security missions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, under the auspices of the United Nations.
For his part, Speaker of the House of Representatives Habib El Malki affirmed the strength of relations linking the two countries. He also reiterated the commitment of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to congratulating the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, His Excellency Félix Tshisekedi, following his election in 2019. The Speaker also highlighted that the participation in the peacekeeping operations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo emanates from Morocco's attachment to its African roots, its historical relations with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and its deep belief that peace and stability are the two bases for sustainable development.
Mr. El Malki noted that human trafficking and migration are closely linked. In this context, he noted that the House of Representatives is considering the organization of a parliamentary meeting on migration that will tackle all the questions related to this issue. He also stressed that cooperation between the two legislative institutions would witness new momentum after the health conditions related to COVID-19 improve.
