Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki received, on Thursday, September 24th, 2020, at the House’s headquarters, Ambassador of Guatemala to Morocco Monica Bolanos Perez, in a courtesy visit following her appointment as a new ambassador to the Kingdom.
In this meeting, the Ambassador of Guatemala reaffirmed the unwavering stand of her country in favor of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, stressing that Guatemala approves of Morocco’s autonomy proposal for southern provinces, presented by the Kingdom as a definitive solution to this artificial conflict, and considers it a pacifist, realistic, and credible political solution. She also highlighted the convergence of views of the two countries on several issues of common interest, lauding the growing rapprochement between the two countries, who will celebrate next year the fiftieth anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
Also, Ms. Monica Bolanos Perez expressed her satisfaction with the high-quality cooperation relations between the two countries' legislative institutions and commended the efforts of the Moroccan Parliament to consolidate its friendship ties with South and Central American Parliaments. In the same respect, she added that Guatemala is a gateway to the region, while Morocco is a bridge towards African countries.
On his side, Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki lauded the strong friendship bonds linking Morocco to Guatemala, which have contributed to opening new cooperation prospects for the two countries. Also, he affirmed that the two countries share the same values that constitute the United Nations system, which are solidarity, peace, and security.
Mr. El Malki also lauded Guatemala's strong stand on the Moroccan Sahara cause in favor of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, adding that the two countries consider the unity of countries and peoples as essential pillars for peace and stability worldwide.
At the parliamentary level, the Speaker of the House of Representatives expressed his strong will to further consolidate the friendship and cooperation ties with the Guatemalan Parliament, adding that parliamentary diplomacy plays a major role in solidifying cooperation relations between the two countries in different sectors.
