The Forum of Chairpersons of Legislative Assemblies of Central America and the Caribbean (FOPREL) commended the "unprecedented courageous and practical measures taken by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to face the Coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak."
The Secretary-General of "FOPREL" noted, in his name and on behalf of the Forum, that "the Royal initiative of establishing a special fund to manage the Coronavirus pandemic is an international model experience. This experience will contribute significantly to imposing precautionary measures, fighting the pandemic, and mitigating its economic and social consequences."
Also, Secretary-General of FOPREL Santiago U. Rivas Leclair praised the solidarity values shown by the Kingdom of Morocco. He also lauded the engagement of the Moroccan Parliament to the efforts of mitigating the impacts of this pandemic.
It should be noted that FOPREL was established in 1994 to support the implementation mechanisms of legislation of its member states and harmonize them. The Forum also aims at creating consultative mechanisms between the chairpersons of legislative institutions to resolve the various issues of the region. Besides, the Forum supports legislative studies on the regional level.
The Forum, to which Morocco adhered in 2014 as an observer, gathers the chairpersons of the legislative institutions of ten member states, namely: Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. The Forum's headquarters is located in Managua, capital of Nicaragua.
