First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Mohammed Sabbari, and His Entourage Meet Speaker of the Namibian National Assembly

As part of his participation in the 147th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the 212th Session of the Governing Council, and related meetings hosted by the National Assembly of the Republic of Angola in the capital, Luanda, from October 23 to 27, 2023, the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Mohammed Sabbari, and his entourage, held a bilateral meeting on Thursday, October 26, 2023, with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia, Hon. Peter Katjavivi.

The meeting was attended by Rep. Mustapha Reddad (Group of the National Rally of Independents), Rep. Omar Hejira (Istiqlali Group of Unity and Egalitarianism), and Rep. Khaddouj Slassi (Socialist Group-Ittihadi Opposition).

On the Namibian side, the meeting was attended by Ms. Lydia Kandetu, the Secretary General of the National Assembly of Namibia, and Mr. Simon Uirab, Head of the Cabinet of the Speaker of the Assembly.

At the start of the meeting, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia recalled his participation in the African Leaders Summit held in Rabat, the Kingdom of Morocco, in 1972, under the chairmanship of the late His Majesty King Hassan II, may Allah have him in His holy mercy. In the same respect, he noted that this important event gathered the leaders of several African countries at that time and was the center of interest, as it discussed several questions and challenges relating to Africa like national liberation and independence, regional cooperation, economic and social development, and other political affairs of importance to the region.

Besides, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia expressed his desire to consolidate the friendship and cooperation ties with the Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco by creating a parliamentary friendship group and concluding a memorandum of understanding to advance convergence and the exchange of experiences in parliamentary action, particularly in legislation and administrative management, as well as to benefit from the Moroccan parliamentary experience in e-Parliament.

Moreover, he expressed his country’s desire to benefit from the leading Moroccan experience in renewable and clean energies, noting the importance of South-South Cooperation between African countries instead of relying on foreign powers to achieve sustainable development.

For his part, the head of the Moroccan delegation, Rep. Mohammed Sabbari, commended the testimony of the Speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia regarding the support of the Kingdom of Morocco to the liberation movements in Namibia to attain its independence. He also expressed his pride at this meeting, considering it an occasion to reinforce convergence and friendship links, exchange experiences and expertise, and advance cooperation between the two legislative institutions.

Rep. Sabbari also underscored the importance of a real partnership between African brothers, inviting the Speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia to visit the Kingdom of Morocco to explore the Moroccan parliamentary experience in legislation, control, and e-Administration closely.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia concluded the meeting by expressing his happiness at this meeting and his willingness to visit the Kingdom of Morocco at the lead of a delegation including members of the National Assembly and the Senate, with a view to giving strong impetus to the bilateral relations between the two institutions in a way that serves the interests of the two brotherly peoples.
