Deputy Speakers of House of Representatives and Panamanian National Assembly Hold Talks

Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives Mohamed Touimi Benjelloun held talks, Thursday, February 27th at the House’s headquarters, with Deputy Speaker of Panama’s National Assembly Tito Rodriguez Mena, currently visiting Morocco.

During the meeting, the House’s Deputy Speaker expressed the will of the Kingdom of Morocco to advance bilateral relations with the Republic of Panama for the benefit of both countries and their friendly peoples. On this occasion, he recalled the several reforms undertook by the Kingdom in last years and the significant novelties brought by the 2011 Constitution for the construction of a rule-of-law state, especially with conferring a central role to the Moroccan Parliament, as it is the Kingdom’s legislative branch that exercises its full powers.

Also, Mr. Touimi Benjelloun reaffirmed the development of our country in consolidating human rights, separation of powers, independence of the judiciary branch, and reinforcing the representation of women and youth. He also recalled the importance of the development achieved by Morocco in setting the bases of advanced regionalization as an ambitious project that aims at achieving comprehensive and balanced development in all regions of the Kingdom.

As for the case of our territorial integrity, Mr. Touimi Benjelloun recalled the autonomy initiative suggested by Morocco as a final solution to the artificial conflict over Moroccan Sahara, under the UN regulations.

Regarding Parliament, the House’s Deputy Speaker stressed the importance of solidifying relations between the legislative institutions of Panama and Morocco, and intensifying visits between Parliamentarians of the two countries to bring their peoples closer. In the same respect, he stressed the vital role of Parliamentarians in reinforcing relations between the two countries on all levels.

For his part, Mr. Tito Rodriguez Mena confirmed that his visit to Morocco is part of his country’s efforts to strengthen cooperation relations with Morocco, especially in trade. He also recalled the strong will of Panama’s government to advance its cooperation and friendship ties with Morocco.
