Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Hassan Benomar, held talks on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at the House, with the Chair of the Parliamentary Group for North Africa at the Austrian Parliament, Mr. Nico Marchetti, currently on a visit to the Kingdom of Morocco at the head of an important parliamentary delegation.
During their meeting, the two parties reviewed the prospects and means to consolidate cooperation between the two countries, in addition to several international questions of mutual interest.
In a statement on occasion, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Hassan Benomar, lauded the excellent relations linking the two countries, noting the critical role of the Parliament in the reinforcement of such ties and consolidation of the rapprochement and friendship between the Moroccan and Austrian Peoples. In the same respect, he added that the Kingdom of Morocco is a country of peace, liberties, and tolerance.
Mr. Benomar gave an overview to the Austrian delegation of the Moroccan experience in several vital areas, particularly in food and energy security. He also highlighted that the Kingdom of Morocco produces green energy, thanks to the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
Rep. Hassan Benomar also informed the Austrian parliamentary delegation of the two Government programs, "Awrach" and "Forsa," directed at employing young people and creating entrepreneurial businesses. The Deputy Speaker also shed light on the new policy of the Kingdom of Morocco regarding migration, hence enabling the Kingdom to settle the legal status of a significant number of migrants.
For his part, the Chairperson of the Morocco-Austria Parliamentary Friendship Group, Rep. Abdellah Ghazi, noted that the House of Representatives aspires to advance the cooperation ties between the two institutions and countries, who entertain strong historical bonds that date back to 1783 when the diplomatic relations between Morocco and Austria were established.
In this context, Rep. Abdellah Ghazi stressed the imperative of working to solidify cultural cooperation between the two countries and intensify the economic and commercial exchange between them, in addition to the importance of creating cooperation ties between the cities and regions of the two countries as part of decentralized cooperation.
The Chair of the Parliamentary Group for North Africa at the Austrian Parliament, Mr. Nico Marchetti, underscored the strong will of his country to consolidate cooperation with Morocco, especially at the parliamentary, economic, and academic levels.
The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of Austria to Rabat, Mr. Klaus Kogeler.
