Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rachid Talbi El Alami held talks on Monday, March 20, 2023, at the seat of the House in Rabat, with the Speaker of the National Council of the Republic of Austria, Hon. Wolfgang Sobotka, on the occasion of his official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco where he will meet several officials.
The talks covered the consolidation of the bilateral ties linking the legislative institutions of the two countries. In this regard, the two parties agreed on giving new impetus to parliamentary cooperation between the House of Representatives and the National Council by concluding a Memorandum of Understanding on the development of the parliamentary and administrative links and the reinforcement of dialogue, consultation, and coordination on the questions of mutual interest.
On the same occasion, the two parties commended the depth and strength of the relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Austria. Moreover, they expressed their pride in commemorating the 240th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between the two countries this year, in addition to the excellent course and dynamism characterizing said ties.
The meeting and the ceremony of conclusion of the MoU were attended by the Chairperson of the Austria-North Africa Parliamentary Group at the Austrian National Council, Mr. Nico Marchetti, the Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Rabat, H.E. Anna Jankovic, the Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Islamic Affairs, and Moroccan Expatriates Committee at the House of Representatives, Rep. Nadia Bouaida, and the Chairperson of the Morocco-Austria Parliamentary Friendship Group, Rep. Abdellah Ghazi.
The two parties affirmed the mutual respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the two countries and the centrality of the United Nations process in resolving international conflicts in pacific manners. In the same vein, the Austrian side underscored its support for the autonomy plan proposed by the Kingdom of Morocco to solve the conflict around the Sahara, considering it a serious and credible solution according to the principles and resolutions of the United Nations.
