A parliamentary delegation from the House of Representatives, formed of Rep. Abdelali Brouki (Istiqlali Group of Unity and Egalitarianism) and Rep. Hayat Laraich (Socialist Group) is taking part in the Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum, held on March 7-8, 2022, in Guatemala, on “Corruption and Transnational Organized Crime: Threats to Social and Economic Prosperity.”
The importance of the Forum resides in its being a space for dialogue and debate between politicians, experts and actors in the area of intelligence and security on the means to combat transnational organized crime and its new forms, such as cybercrime, money laundering through digital and cryptocurrencies, cyberattacks, and hacking.
The participants in the Forum focused on the imperative of exchanging successful experiences and expertise to curb the new trends of transnational organized crime. They also called for encouraging parliamentarians to take local legislative initiatives that intend to reinforce oversight, aggravate sanctions on money laundering, consolidate cybersecurity and the protection of personal data, sanction human trafficking, and to cut the sources that fund illicit migration and drug trafficking networks.
On the sidelines of the Forum, the delegation of the House of Representatives held a bilateral meeting with the Chairperson and the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Congress of the Republic of Guatemala. The meeting tackled ways to consolidate the bilateral parliamentary ties and the exchange of regular visits between the two legislative institutions. Besides, the Moroccan parliamentary delegation praised the position of the Republic of Guatemala in favor of our national cause, and its support for the UN Process to settle this artificial conflict, and for the autonomy proposal as a realistic, practical and credible solution to it.
