The Clerk of the House of Representatives, Rep. Ilham Saki, is participating in the Fifth Forum of Women Leaders, taking place on November 7-10, 2022, in Reykjavik, Iceland.
The Forum features the participation of several figures from around 150 countries, including parliamentarians, academics, as well as influential political and civil figures. The Forum discusses gender equality, the consolidation of women's participation in decision-making processes, the dissemination of peace, and the development of societies through communication canals between female political leaders and society.
In her address during the Forum, Rep. Ilham Saki stressed the importance of gender equality and fighting discrimination as a turning point in the human rights development process in the Kingdom of Morocco. In this respect, she noted that the 2011 Constitution, being the supreme law of the State, is a fertile soil that supports this trend through the explicit acknowledgment of the imperative of achieving gender equality, advancing women's conditions, preserving their rights, and supporting gender equality in all the regions of the Kingdom. The Moroccan Representative also shed light on the leading role of female politicians in contributing to development, in addition to the pioneering part of the Kingdom of Morocco in this respect at the African level.
On the same note, she noted that the legal and legislative framework of the Kingdom of Morocco forms an adequate platform for consolidating gender equality and fighting gender-based discrimination, given the decisive reforms adopted towards reaching parity and doing women justice. Rep. Saki added that work towards achieving gender equality is ongoing and requires joining efforts and resources.
Rep. Ilham Saki also participated in the reception organized by the President of the Republic of Iceland, H.E. Guðni Th. Jóhannesson at the Presidential Palace in Reykjavik in honor of all participating delegations in the Forum. During the ceremony, the President gave an address where he lauded the pivotal role of the Republic of Iceland at the international level in entrenching the culture of gender equality. He added that gender equality shall no longer remain a mere thought but must be translated into fact worldwide.
