Chairperson of the Infrastructure, Energy, Mines, and Environment Committee Holds Talks with Chairperson of the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with the Maghreb States at the German Bundestag

Chairperson of the Infrastructure, Energy, Mines, and Environment Committee at the House of Representatives, Rep. Mohamed Malal, held talks on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at the Seat of the House in Rabat, with the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with the Maghreb States at the German Bundestag, MP Carl-Julius Cronenberg, currently on a working visit to our country alongside some Group members.

At the onset of the meeting, Rep. Mohamed Malal underscored the progress achieved by the Kingdom in renewable energies. In the same respect, he noted the Moroccan choice of advancing investment in this area and consolidating partnership ties at the European and African levels under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may Allah glorify him.

On the same occasion, Rep. Mohamed Malal shed light on the development of the Kingdom's legal arsenal and the creation of an institutional atmosphere that regulates and orients this area, reflected by the National Authority for Electricity Regulation. In the same regard, he added that the Investment Charter has formed a fertile soil for creating several partnerships in renewable energies and green hydrogen production and advancing public-private partnerships, which has enabled the development of the electricity linkage between Africa and Europe.

Besides, the Chairperson of the Infrastructure, Energy, Mines, and Environment Committee also shed light on the water desalination project that aims to provide drinkable water for citizens and agricultural and industrial objectives, particularly in light of climate change, drought, and global warming. In the same context, he added that the Kingdom adopts eco-friendly policies in sustainable development and encourages scientific research and innovation.

For his part, the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with the Maghreb States, MP Carl-Julius Cronenberg noted that this meeting would pave the way for advancing bilateral cooperation and bringing views closer between the Kingdom of Morocco and Germany, especially since the latter aims to promote partnership in renewable energies and green hydrogen production. The German parliamentarian reiterated his country's strong solidarity with the Kingdom of Morocco following the earthquake that struck some of its regions on September 8, 2023.

The German parliamentary delegation included, alongside MP Carl-Julius Cronenberg (Free Democratic Party), MP Dietmar Friedhoff (Alternative for Germany) and MP Mareike Lotte Wulf (Christian Democratic Union of Germany).
