Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Islamic Affairs, and Moroccan Expatriates Committee, Rep. Nadia Bouaida, received at the seat of the House on Thursday, June 9, 2023, the President of the Parliament of the Southern Common Market (Parlasur), Hon. Ruben Anibal Bacigalupe, and his entourage. The talks focused on consolidating ties between the Moroccan Parliament and this economic Bloc.
At the onset of the meeting, attended by Rep. Aicha El Gourgi, Rep. Nadia Bouaida welcomed the parliamentary delegation to the Kingdom of Morocco and commended this economic Bloc as an initiative that encourages economic inclusion. In the same regard, she underscored the importance of reinforcing cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Parliaments of South America at the economic, political, and social levels.
Besides, the Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee shed light on the geopolitical developments that have impacted the global economy, particularly the Russia-Ukraine crisis, which has had a direct impact on the prices of energy materials. Similarly, she highlighted the Moroccan experience in renewable energies and energy transition.
On the same occasion, Rep. Aicha El Gourgi briefed the delegation on the multidimensional development and evolution of the Kingdom of Morocco, which have enabled the Kingdom to occupy a distinguished strategic position at the African, Arab, and African levels, thus providing major opportunities for cooperation with South American States.
For their part, the delegation of the Parlasur covered the means to reinforce cooperation with the Kingdom of Morocco, particularly with regard to the changes in the world and its political scene, which pushes South American Parliaments to explore new economic strategies and cooperation formats that benefit all. The delegation also expressed their desire to conclude Memoranda of Understanding with the Moroccan Parliament as part of South-South Cooperation, work through multilateral action mechanisms, and offer opportunities for joint action to achieve economic development and overcome the repercussions of Covid-19.
The two parties also discussed the possibility of exchanging visits and translating talks into memoranda of understanding.
The delegation of the Parlasur includes the President of the Parlasur, Hon. Ruben Anibal Bacigalupe, the Vice-President of the Parlasur and Former President of the Parlasur, Mr. Tomas Bittar (Paraguay), the Vice-President, Ms. Cecilia Broto (Argentina), the Chairperson of the Brazilian Caucus at the Parlasur, Mr. Nelson Trad, and the Chairperson of the Parlasur-Italy Friendship Group, Mr. Daniel Oscar Ramundo.
The Mercosur is a South American economic bloc that intends to achieve financial inclusion among the Member States. Since its inception in 1991, the Bloc has become one of the largest economic blocs in the world.
