The Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs, National Defense, Islamic Affairs, and Moroccan Expatriates Committee performed a visit to the Portuguese Parliament, on February 27 to March 1, 2023, alongside a delegation including the Committee members: Rep. Sidi Saleh Idrissi and Rep. Nadia El Kansouri.
The Chairperson initiated the visit alongside the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Portugal, H.E. Othmane Bahnini, with a meeting with the Secretary of State in charge of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Fransisco Andre. She also held talks with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Portugal, Hon. Augusto Santos Silva, the Vice-Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the Portuguese Parliament, and the Chairpersons of the Parliamentary Groups representing the Portuguese political parties in the Parliament.
During the meetings, the parties discussed the means to consolidate cooperation between the two countries in several areas of mutual concern and the exchange of expertise between their two legislative institutions. On occasion, the Moroccan parliamentary delegation stressed the importance of cooperation between the region's countries that share common geography and history. They also noted the priority of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of all Moroccans, noting that it cannot be subject to compromise. In this respect, they recalled the speech of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God glorify him, on the 69th Anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People, where he stated, "the Sahara issue is the lens through which Morocco looks at the world.”
