Main topics of the meeting: Opening of the legislative session and prospects of legislative and control action
The Board of the House of Representatives held its meeting on Wednesday, April 7, 2021. The meeting, chaired by Speaker of the House Habib El Malki, tackled the opening of the legislative session and other matters of relevance to the control and legislative action.
At the onset of the meeting, the Speaker of the House gave a brief presentation on the atmosphere and events that marked the ongoing legislature. In this respect, he noted that these events were mainly linked to social and economic projects reflected in the parliamentary action and based on a broad set of agreements on numerous critical issues of benefit to our dear country.
Despite the harsh circumstances caused by the pandemic, the House has managed, thanks to the efforts of its organs and all its members, to carry out its functions as required and to manage difference in belief that it is one of the pillars of democracy and its manifestations in the political action in general.
The Speaker and the Board members expressed the collective desire to pursue work with the same will and determination to serve the country's best interests. They noted with pride the achievements and gains acquired by Morocco at the national and international levels under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King, may God assist him.
Concerning the opening of the second session of the ongoing legislative year, the Board has decided, following Article 65 of the Constitution, to convene a plenary sitting devoted to the opening of the session on Friday, April 9, 2021, at 4:00 p.m.
Regarding the control action related to weekly questions, and upon consultation of the Speakership of the House with the chairpersons of the parliamentary groups and caucus, the Board has fixed the agenda of the sitting scheduled for April 12, to cover the economic and social sectors, while the sittings that will take place in Ramadan will be devoted to questions followed by a debate. In the same respect, the Board has decided to set the first sitting agenda to cover the departments of interior, agriculture, and national education.
The Board has also decided to included further commentary in the sittings of questions followed by a debate to provide more effective interaction between the House and the Government.
As for legislative action, the Board reviewed the Government and parliamentary bills referred to committees and has decided to devote a plenary sitting to examine and vote on the finalized bills directly after the sitting devoted to questions on Monday, April 12, 2021.
