The Board of the House of Representatives held its weekly meeting on Tuesday, January 21st. The meeting, chaired by Speaker of the House of Representatives Mr. Habib El Malki, raised topics related to government control, legislation, and the partnership between the House of Representatives and higher education institutions.
At the beginning of the meeting, the House's Speaker and Board members reaffirmed the importance of utilizing all the legal and procedural assets to face absenteeism, to provide the institution with the appropriate conditions and circumstances for it to excellently perform its constitutional tasks regarding legislation, government control, evaluation of public policies, and parliamentary diplomacy.
The Board also discussed fallacies that purposely try to damage the House's role and the efficiency of its work and management. They also reaffirmed the effectiveness of the House's communication policy with the general public and reiterated their keenness to consolidate it in a way that serves and reinforces the outreach approach aspired by the House.
Concerning government control, the Board has set water policy as the main focus of the monthly session devoted to oral questions on general policy for Head of Government, which will be held on Monday, January 27th. The Board has also decided to convene a joint plenary session between the House of Representatives and the House of Councilors, under the provisions of Article 148 of the Constitution, to hear the report of the Court of Accounts on its 2018 activities, which will be presented by its First Chairman on Tuesday, January 28th at 18:00.
As for legislation, the Board reviewed the parliamentary bill relative to amending and supplementing Article 325 of Act 15.95 relative to the commercial code and has decided to deposit it with the Productive Sectors Committee. The Board also reviewed draft parliamentary bills currently being examined by standing committees, as well as the agenda of their meetings. Additionally, the Board has decided to convene a plenary session on Wednesday, January 29th, at 17:00 to study and vote on finalized legislative texts.
Besides, and concerning partnership between the House of Representatives and Higher Education institutions, the Board has decided to conclude a partnership agreement on Tuesday, January 28th.
