Board of House of Representatives and Panel of Chairs Hold Meetings on Monday, March 1, 2021

As part of the preparations for the extraordinary session, the Board of the House of Representatives held a meeting, chaired by the Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki, on Monday, March 1, 2021. The meeting was devoted to defining the agenda of the House.

At the start of the meeting, the Speaker of the House recalled the provisions regulating the convention of this session and its agenda, affirming the importance of this juncture in the history of the action of the legislative institution regarding the preparation of the legislative texts relating to elections, and other prominent legislative texts that cover social protection and the National Authority for Integrity and Prevention and Fight against Corruption (INPPLC), in addition to the Government organic bill on appointment to senior positions.

The Speaker of the House also recalled the positive atmosphere marked by great patriotism shown by the House's different components during this legislature in discussing and examining the various issues and concerns of citizens. The Speaker stated that this legislature was marked by several major challenges emanating from the pandemic, such as the economic takeoff, the informal sector, social protection, development of the health sector, and other affairs that coincided with the pandemic, including the developments in the Moroccan Sahara and the constant international support to the Moroccan position and the legitimate rights of the Kingdom.

As part of implementing the House's action plan, the Board has decided to convene a plenary sitting on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. to open the extraordinary session. The sitting will be followed by a legislative plenary sitting to examine and vote on a number of legislative texts, namely the Government organic bill on appointment to senior positions and two Government bills on elections. The first covers the general electoral lists while the second is relative to the electoral code and running an exceptional review of the electoral lists of professional chambers.

Also, as part of setting the House's agenda, the Panel of Chairs held a meeting on the same day. The meeting, chaired by Speaker of the House Habib El Malki, was an occasion where the House components reviewed the agenda of the House and the conduct of the activities of the standing committees concerned with the legislative texts to be covered in the extraordinary session.

At the onset of the meeting, the Speaker of the House recalled and commended the efforts of the Minister of State in Charge of Human Rights and Relations with Parliament Mustapha Ramid in advancing cooperation between the House and the Government, and his firm will to promote this cooperation to higher levels, believing in the central role of the legislative institution in discussing the vital issues of our country.

The Speaker of the House and the participants seized this opportunity to wish the Minister of State a speedy recovery, expressing their hopes that he resumes his daily activities at the earliest opportunity.
