Baghdad: Delegation of Moroccan Parliament Takes Part in 34th Congress of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union

A delegation of the Moroccan Parliament is taking part in the 34th Congress of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, covering: "Arab Support to Reinforce the Stability and Sovereignty of Iraq." The Congress, which takes place on February 23-26, 2023, aims to advance Arab parliamentary cooperation as a key pillar of Arab solidarity.

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Hassan Benomar, heads the delegation that also includes Cllr. Miloud Maassid, member of the Board of the House of Councilors and the members of the National Parliamentary Representation at the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, namely: Rep. Fatima Khair, Rep. Lahcen Saadi, Rep. Abderrahim Ouaamro, Rep. Abderrazaq Ahlouch, Rep. Faiçal Zarhouni, Cllr. Cheikh Ahmadou Adebda, and Cllr. Fatiha Khourtal.

This Session is marked by the high-level participation of 18 Arab countries, including 14 Speakers and 4 Deputy Speakers of parliaments, in addition to several parliamentary organizations and bodies as Observer Members, mainly the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

In addition to the Congress, the Session's agenda includes meetings of the Standing Committees: Committee on Political Affairs and Parliamentary Relations, Committee on Financial and Economic Affairs, and the Committee on Women and Children Affairs. The Congress will also discuss the reports of the past sessions and the activities of the Union's Secretariat-General since the 32nd Congress.

Besides, the participation of the Moroccan parliamentary delegation in this Arab parliamentary gathering should serve as an opportunity to exchange expertise and hold bilateral meetings, which would have a positive impact on the Kingdom's regional and international positioning and on parliamentary practices in all their aspects.

It should be noted that the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union is an Arab parliamentary organization created in June 1974 and gathers 22 representations that represent Arab parliaments and councils. The Union aims to "consolidate Arab parliamentary cooperation as a key pillar of Arab solidarity and brick in representing the will of Arab peoples through the representatives of national parliaments who express the aspirations of Arab citizens and their causes." The Union also aims to advance coordination and cooperation between Arab parliaments to address the threats and challenges that face Arab national security in all its dimensions. Moreover, it intends to establish coordination on the questions, problems, and dangers that threaten the Arab world in the various regional and parliamentary fora, and within the international organizations where the Union is an Observer Member.
