Arab Parliament-Cairo: Delegation of the Moroccan Parliament Takes Part in Committee Meetings and First Plenary Sitting of First Legislative Session under Fourth Legislative Term

A delegation of the Moroccan Parliament is taking part in the meetings of the Committees and the Arab Parliament’s First Plenary Sitting of the First Legislative Session under the Fourth Legislative Term, held on October 26-27, 2024, in Cairo, the Arab Republic of Egypt. 

The delegation includes: 

  • Rep. Mohammed Ayyach (Group of the National Rally of Independents); 
  • Rep. Khadija Hajjoubi (Group of Authenticity and Modernity); 
  • Rep. Mohammed Lahmouch (Haraki Group – Popular Movement); and
  • Cllr. Mohammed El Bakkouri (Group of the National Rally of Independents). 

The first day of the Session witnessed a procedural session aimed at electing the Arab Parliament's President and deputies, and the Chairpersons of committees and their deputies. The Kingdom of Morocco was well-represented in these elections, with the election of Cllr. Mohammed El Bakkouri as Chairperson of the Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs. Rep. Khadija Hajjoubi was also elected Deputy Chairperson of the Committee on Social, Educational, Cultural, Women, and Youth Affairs.

The participation of members of the Moroccan parliamentary delegation in the proceedings of the committees was characterized by in-depth discussions covering pressing Arab issues and the latest developments in the region. The discussions touched on several guiding laws. In this respect, the Committee on Social, Educational, Cultural, Women, and Youth Affairs, chaired by Rep. Khadija Hajjoubi, discussed executive mechanisms to promote the recommendations of the Document for the Development of Education in the Arab World, as well as developments in the preparation of a symposium on the protection of values in the Arab world, and adopted a comprehensive report on the social situation in the Arab world for the year 2023.

For his part, Rep. Mohammed Lahmouch participated in the meeting of the Committee on Foreign, Political, and National Security Affairs. The meeting reviewed the ongoing political and security developments in the Arab region and the challenges it faces. The Committee members agreed on the importance of preparing draft resolutions and statements reflecting the position of the Arab Parliament on various political issues, in order to ensure unity of Arab opinion on national security issues and other matters on the agenda of regional and international parliamentary organizations.

The meeting of Committee on Legislative, Legal, and Human Rights Affairs, in which Rep. Ayyach participated, discussed a guiding Arab bill aimed at combating the phenomenon of illegal migration at the Arab world level.

The work of the opening session of the Fourth Legislative Term was concluded by holding the first plenary sitting, where the Arab Parliament adopted a resolution on the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. The reports of the four standing committees were also discussed and approved.
