Rep. Ilhami Essaki (Group of Authenticity and Modernity) took part in the meeting of the Steering Bureau of the Arab Parliament’s High-Level Parliamentary Working Group on Technology, Innovation, and Digital Transition, held at the General Secretariat of the Arab Parliament in Cairo, the Arab Republic of Egypt, on October 8-9, 2024.
The meeting featured the presentation of the action plan and strategy of the Group during the next period. The meeting also discussed the launch of a parliamentary charter regarding the ethics of technology, innovation, and digital transformation.
Besides, Rep. Ilham Essaki noted during the meeting that the Kingdom of Morocco launched the "2030 Digital Morocco Strategy," which aims to enable Moroccan citizens to benefit from digital services on an equal footing, anchor good practices, and assist public administrations in the digital transformation project.
She also added that the digital revolution should serve the interests of the people rather than destroy societies, calling for enacting laws that combat cybercrimes. The Moroccan Representative added that the rapid and significant evolution of technology and science calls for modernizing laws and enacting ones that inhibit the use of technology for harming universally recognized rights.
The Arab Parliament's High-Level Parliamentary Working Group on Technology, Innovation, and Digital Transition is the first Arab parliamentary network specializing in science and technology. It works to increase interest in this area in the Arab world and establish the foundations for an efficient complementarity between science, technology, and parliamentary work in the Arab world.
