Speaker of House of Representatives Habib El Malki received on Tuesday, December 1st, 2020, at the House’s headquarters, the German Ambassador to Rabat Götz Schmidt-Bremme.
During the meeting, the Speaker of the House of Representatives stressed the unanimous support of all Moroccans to the legitimate and firm response by the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the FAR, to defend the legitimacy and restore security and stability in the Guergarate buffer-zone.
Mr. El Malki noted the high professionalism of this pacific bloodless intervention of the Royal Armed Forces, recalling the huge international support that the operation has got. He also added, “it is time to end this artificial conflict around the Moroccan Sahara, which is a remnant of the cold war. We now have bigger challenges in the region that we need to address, including terrorism and climate change.”
As regards the Libyan crisis, the Speaker of the House of Representatives highlighted that Morocco enjoys the trust of all Libyan parties thanks to the credibility of its diplomacy lead by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which relies on promoting political dialogue in alignment with the UN efforts to resolve the conflict and reach consensual inter-Libyan solutions without any foreign interventions. He also noted that all the stages of the inter-Libyan dialogue that Morocco hosted, starting from Sekhirat, and then Bouznika, and Tangier, are marked by trust and mutual keenness to bring the reconciliation to success to end the crisis at the earliest time.
Mr. El Malki affirmed the strong relations that link the Moroccan House of Representatives to its Libyan counterpart, recalling the conclusion by him and his Libyan counterpart Aguila Saleh, in July 2020, of a cooperation agreement between the two Houses. Based on the said agreement, a delegation of Libyan women parliamentarians of the Libyan House of Representatives performed a working visit to the Moroccan House of Representatives to explore the Moroccan experience in gender equality and promotion of women's situation.
For his part, the German Ambassador lauded Morocco’s efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis, affirming the importance of consolidating the cooperation ties between the House of Representatives and the German Bundestag.
The meeting was an occasion to exchange views on the means to advance the relations between the legislative institutions of the two countries and on several issues of common interest.
