Speaker of House of Representatives Meets Chairpersons of Parliamentary Groups and Caucuses on January 20th, 2020

Speaker of the House of Representatives Mr. Habib El Malki held a meeting with the chairpersons of Parliamentary groups and caucuses on Monday, January 20th. The meeting discussed topics relating to government control and the House's agenda.

The first part of the meeting focused on absenteeism, as it damages the noble message of representing the nation's citizens and defending their concerns and interests. On this occasion, Mr. El Malki reminded the chairpersons of the Parliamentary groups and caucuses of the heavy responsibility they bear, which requires respecting the nobleness of the national message they are carrying, through productive and efficient participation in committees' activities, plenary sessions, and other House activities of a representative nature. He also stressed on utilizing all the assets offered by the House's organic law and Rules of Procedure, to fight this phenomenon that impedes the mission for which the Deputies were elected.

The meeting also examined questions relative to convening an oral questions session, the House's agenda concerning the sessions devoted to legislation, and the presentation of the Court of Accounts report.

As for the system of questioning, the House's Speaker and the chairpersons of the Parliamentary groups and caucuses reiterated the importance of the proposals aiming at a comprehensive reform of sessions devoted to questions, both in form and substance. The participants in the meeting also noted the progress and agreement on the reform contents, which will be presented before the executive bodies of the House, along with a plan to implement it during the April session.
