Speaker of the House of Representatives Mr. Habib El Malki held talks, on Thursday, January 23rd at the House’s headquarters, with the Austrian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco, Mr. Klaus Kogeler.
During the meeting, the Speaker of the House of Representatives lauded the long-standing historical ties linking the two countries and their peoples, which have lasted for centuries. Mr. El Malki also expressed his strong will to promote relations between the Parliaments of both countries towards more cooperation and dialogue. On this subject, he noted the creation of a Morocco-Austria Parliamentary Friendship Group in the House of Representatives. He also highlighted the critical role of parliamentary diplomacy in bringing the two countries closer and reinforcing their cooperation.
Mr. El Malki also brought to light the importance of increasing visits of parliamentary delegations of both countries, calling for giving a new dynamism to the cooperation between the House of Representatives and the Austrian National Council. He added, “We are keen to advance our relations with the Austrian Parliament in a way that would consolidate cooperation between Morocco and Austria on all levels.”
For his part, the Austrian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco reaffirmed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening cooperation ties between the two countries. He also noted that both countries’ Parliaments share a common interest in numerous vital issues, namely “climate change” and “immigration,” which would make the themes of future joint meetings for discussion and exchange of views between the deputies of both countries.
On this occasion, Mr. Kogeler also reviewed the main areas of cooperation between Austria and Morocco, noting specifically Austria’s contribution to the partnership between Morocco and the European Union in supporting projects related to sustainable development. In this respect, he said that “there are huge opportunities for cooperation between Austria and Morocco in all aspects relating to sustainable development.”
