Moroccan Parliament Takes Part in 145th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union

The Moroccan Parliament is taking part, through a high-level delegation, in the works of the 145th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the 210th Session of its Governing Council, in addition to the related meetings taking place in the Rwandan Parliament in Kigali, on October 10-15, 2022, with the participation of 1000 representatives from 148 parliaments.

The Moroccan delegation includes Rep. Ahmed Touizi, the Chairperson of the Group of Authenticity and Modernity and Head of the Delegation, Rep. Mustapha Reddad from the Group the National Rally of Independents, Rep. Khdouj Slassi from the Socialist Group, Cllr. Kamal Ait Mik, from the Group of the National Rally of Independents, and Cllr. Hassan Chamis, from the Group of Authenticity and Modernity.

The Session will tackle the theme: “Gender equality and gender-sensitive parliaments as drivers of change for a more resilient and peaceful world." The goal is to unify points of view between parliamentarians, reach agreements and consensus in opinions on the legal frameworks, policies, and measures related to gender equality, coordinate the voices of parliamentarians, and deploy further efforts to create purposeful global impacts and consolidate peace, gender equality, and sustainable development for the peoples of the world.

The participants in the Session will also go over several central questions through the standing and ad hoc committees, especially the parliamentary measures that should be taken regarding global migration, the means to curb human trafficking and human rights violations, redressing environmental imbalances, fighting terrorism propagation, ensuring global food security, in addition to confronting cyberattacks and their impact on the safety of States.

The Moroccan delegation will also hold several meetings on the sidelines of the Session to consolidate the bilateral and multilateral parliamentary cooperation.

It should be noted that the Inter-Parliamentary Union is the largest international gathering of parliaments. The Union was established in 1889 and includes 178 member parliaments.
