House of Representatives Takes Part in PAM’s Parliamentary Forum for Women

A delegation of the House of Representatives took part in the Parliamentary Forum for Women, organized in Lisbon, Portugal, on July 4-5, 2022, by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean.

The delegation of the House of Representatives comprised:

- Rep. Nadia Touhami, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and member of the Group of Progress and Socialism;

- Rep. Ilham Saki, Clerk of the House and member of the Group of Authenticity and Modernity.

The Session's agenda included the discussion of the functions and structure of the PAM's Parliamentary Forum for Women. The participants also discussed several vital questions that focus mainly on promoting democracy through the consolidation of women's rights as they are fundamental human rights, reinforcement of communication and coordination with parliamentarians on all questions of mutual interests to ensure the generalization of the respect of the equality principle in all areas under PAM's jurisdiction, promotion of the participation of women parliamentarians in the action of this regional institution and advancement of their just representation in the positions of responsibility within its bodies and structures.

In this regard, the members of the Moroccan parliamentary delegation gave, through their interventions ,  an overview of the best practices adopted by the Kingdom of Morocco in empowering women and consolidating its status and achieving equality. They also stressed the importance of paying particular attention to female refugees and the challenges they face.

It should be noted that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean has engaged, since its creation in 2005, in defending causes of gender, consolidating the role of women, and empowering them politically, economically, and socially.
