The House of Representatives is taking part in the 15th session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) Conference, which takes place on January 27-30th in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The Moroccan parliamentary delegation involves members of the national parliamentary section of the House of Representatives to the PUIC:

Mr. Mohammed Hamdaoui, Group of Justice and Development;

Ms. Aicha Farih, Group of Authenticity and Modernity;

Mr. Hmad Ait Baha, Group of Constitutional Rally.

The conference witnesses also the participation of members of the House of Councilors, namely:

Mr. Abdelilah Halouti, Group of Justice and Development;

Mr. Hamid Qmiza, Group of Authenticity and Modernity;

Mr. Abdelaziz Bouhdoud, Group of National Rally of Independents.

On the first day of the 15th session, the Union’s executive committee held its 43rd meeting, where Speaker of the Burkinabe National Assembly Mr. Alassane Bala Sakande gave an opening statement in which he welcomed the participant parliamentary delegations, hoping for a successful conference that serves the Islamic World. Mr. Sakande also recalled the hard situations that many Muslim countries currently live, mainly because of internal armed conflicts, instability, and heightened tension. The Burkinabe official stressed in his statement the responsibility of the OIC and its bodies in advocating the just causes of Muslim peoples, mainly the Palestinian cause, in addition to other issues and crises Muslim minorities undergo around the world.

The first working session of the executive committee witnessed the election of its Board members, and the setting of its agenda. The latter includes setting the agendas of the Union’s standing specialized committees, and its subsidiary organs.

The members of the Moroccan delegation will take part in the activities of the standing committees and subsidiary organs on January 28-29th to discuss draft resolutions and recommendations relative to the political and foreign affairs of the OIC. They will also discuss affairs relative to culture, law, human rights, women, family, economy, and environment in the Islamic world.

It should be noted that Speaker of the House of Representatives Mr. Habib El Malki was elected Chairman of the PUIC in the 14th session of its conference held at the House of Representatives headquarters in March 2019. The chairmanship of Mr. El Malki added a new dynamism to the Union given his suggestions on developing the working mechanisms of the its bodies and committees, and his initiatives of establishing an International Day of Solidarity against Islamophobia and launching the Palestine Award for Historical Justice.
