FOPREL Awards 'Esquipulas Peace Prize' to His Majesty King Mohammed VI

The Forum of the Chairpersons of the Legislative Assemblies of Central America, the Caribbean, and Mexico awarded His Majesty King Mohammed VI the 'Esquipulas Peace Prize,' which is the most honorable prize the Forum awards.

This distinction was awarded to the Sovereign following a resolution adopted at the opening session of the 26th Extraordinary Session of the Forum, hosted by the Moroccan Parliament on May 19-21, 2022.

The tenor of the resolution of FOPREL, where the Kingdom of Morocco is an observer member, states that the awarding of this prize comes as an "homage and esteem to the wisdom and courage of His Majesty the King, who prioritizes the general interest, to reject differences and works constantly to achieve peace between peoples."

The same resolution highlights that His Majesty King Mohammed VI is "a role model" for all those who work to respect and preserve the values of peace among different cultures and peoples of the world and that this award also comes in recognition of the sustained efforts that the Sovereign has made, since his accession to the Throne, in the service of the promotion of peace.

The "Esquipulas Peace Prize" aims to promote the ethical and spiritual values of civic friendship, understanding, tolerance, solidarity among peoples, and respect for human rights, which are components of the authentic culture of peace.

Created in 1994, FOPREL is an organization that aims to support the mechanisms of application and coordination of the laws of its Member States, develop consultative mechanisms between the chairpersons of their legislative assemblies to address the various problems arising in the region, and assist in legislative studies on the regional level.
