Algiers: Distinguished Participation of the Moroccan Parliament in 17th Session of the PUIC Conference

A high-level Moroccan parliamentary delegation is taking part in the 17th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States (PUIC) and the meetings related. The Session, held in Algiers on January 26-30, 2023, covers "the Islamic World and the Challenges of Modernization and Development." It features the participation of representatives of the parliaments members of the Union, in addition to several international and regional parliamentary organizations, in an observing quality.

The Session takes place amidst several challenges that face the Islamic nation on the political, economic, and security fronts. It also occurs in light of the latest developments in the Palestinian cause.

The Session kicks off with meetings of the PUIC Executive Committee, the Association of PUIC Secretaries General, and the four standing committees: Committee on Political and Foreign Relations, Committee on Economic Affairs and Environment, Committee on Human Rights, Woman, and Family Affairs, and the Committee on Cultural and Legal Affairs and Dialogue of Civilizations and Religions.

The first day of the Session featured consultative meetings between the members of the three Groups forming the Union (Arabic, Asian, and African) on several organizational matters. Besides, it also featured a meeting of the Committee on Palestine to discuss the latest developments of the Palestinian cause.

Moreover, the Session will discuss several draft resolutions related to numerous questions and States, and will feature the renewal of the Union's bodies, culminating in the adoption of a final declaration.

It should be noted that the Moroccan Parliament is represented by a delegation headed by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Mohamed Ouzzine, and involving: Rep. Mohamed Chebbak (Group of the National Rally of Independents), Rep. Najoua Koukouss (Group of Authenticity and Modernity), Rep. Khalid Chennak (Istiqlali Group of Unity and Egalitarianism), Cllr. Abdelkrim Chahid (Coordinator of the Constitutional, Democratic, and Social Group), and Cllr. Khalid Essati (Group of the National Labor Union of Morocco).
